Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service

Cumbria Fire and RescueCumbria Fire & Rescue Service delivers a delivers a range of services in its role to prevent protect as well as responding to to fire-related situations;   these include attending incidents relating to fire, flooding, road traffic collisions, water rescue, terrorist threats and many other kinds of human and animal emergency.

In the protection role, Community Fire Safety (CFS) involves educating the public about the dangers of fire and its effects. CFS education is now one of the primary roles of the modern day Firefighter including Home Fire safety Checks, Smoke Alarms, Home Risk Assessments, Escape Plans and much more. The Service also delivers a road awareness training package to schools which is intended to make our young drivers more conscious of the dangers to themselves and other people by deterring  reckless driving habits.

The Service also has a role in Fire Safety enforcement which aims to make Cumbria a safer place by reducing as far as possible the risks and social and economic costs of fires and other dangers.   In order to discharge this duty, dedicated Fire Safety Inspection Officers follow a risk-based inspection programme of premises to ensure compliance with legal regulatory requirements.

In order for the service to be effective, information (from a wide range of sources) is a vital part of understanding the risks to both people and property so a wide range of statistical and spatial analyses are carried out to ensure that the fire prevention programmes target the right households and business premises, and that our response to any incident is both timely and effective.
