The Information and Intelligence Unit provide research and analysis to councillors, officers, its partners and members of the public.

We develop and promote the use of an effective evidence base for decision making, drawing on social, economic and other sources of information. We advise services on future trends and implications to evidence and inform their investment needs for service delivery. We are working towards improving the information systems held by the council and its partners through the Cumbria Research and Analysis Group.

Key Functions

Initiate, undertake, commission and manage research and analysis
Assist public agencies in Cumbria to make informed decisions when developing new policies , ensuring they achieve their objectives. We do this by identifying the need for information; gathering data through different forms of research; manipulating, analysing and interpreting data to create meaningful information and intelligence.
Advise officers, councillors and partners using the latest socio-economic information and advise on gaps in current knowledge together with a means of addressing these
Provide evidence based input into bidding and lobbying activities
Produce regualr briefings, profiles and other statistical reports
Deal with information and analysis requests
