'Local Governance, Higher Performance'

Community of interest LSP workshop,

12 June 2008, 9:30 am Wigan Investment Centre

Developing an LSP core process

The more challenging aspects of an LSP's improvement journey are usually concerned with the key issues of joint planning, resource allocation and commissioning.  St. Helens Council has an excellent track record as one of the leading local authorities in the country for performance, finance and risk management.  The Centre for Local Governance has been working with St. Helens Council and its partners to see if a core process for the LSP can developed, shared and embedded.

Workshop objectives We will be presenting our early findings following our analysis of partner processes and our interviews with key players across the LSP.  However, this will be a dynamic workshop where participants will be encouraged to bring along details of their own LSP processes and share learning about emerging practice.  We will then write up the key points from the workshop to enable North West LSPs to access emerging good practice.

The workshop is free to all members of the 'Local Governance, Higher Performance' community of interest.  Please note that our usual booking policy will apply.  People who book a place but who don't attend without letting us know in advance will be subject to a discretionary charge.

For further details of the community of interest, or to book a place at this event, please contact Jez Lloyd at cflg@manchester.ac.uk.

'Unlocking the Talent of our Communities'

Local Government White Paper Conference

21 July 2008 - Centre for Local Governance, The University of Manchester.

The new Local Government White Paper on the subject of 'Unlocking the Talent of our Communities' is expected to be published in early July.  It is expected to focus on key issues like asset transfer, community contracts, planning and participatory budgeting.  So on 21 July, in partnership with North West Employers Organisation (NWEO), we will be running a half-day briefing conference on the contents of the White Paper and its implications for local policy and practice.

Keynote speakers will include Professor Gerry Stoker and Dennis Reed (ex-Chief Executive, LGIU).

The day will be a mix of keynote presentations, syndicate workshops and whole group discussion.  The event will be written up in such a way that participants can use the format and the materials back in their own sub-regions and authorities to bring their colleagues up-to-date.

Please note that the event will obviously be rearranged if the publication of the White Paper is delayed until the autumn.  The conference is free to all North West members, senior managers, policy officers and community engagement key players.

Please note that our usual booking policy will apply.  People who book a place but who don't attend without letting us know in advance will be subject to a discretionary charge.

To book please contact Kirsten Taylor on 0161 214 7105 or email events@nweo.org.uk
